Khao Kheow Open Zoo is around a 35 minute drive from central Pattaya and set amongst beautiful surroundings of over 2,000 acres of Khao Kheow-Khao Chom Puo Wildlife. Khao Kheow Open Zoo and its grounds are divided into animal habitats (400 acres), public recreational areas (200 acres) and research area (1,400acres) for the purpose of breeding and saving various endangered species. The Zoo is also the first zoo in Thailand to become a member of WAZA (World Association of Zoos and Aquariums).
Khao Kheow Open Zoo is a fantastic day out and especially popular place to take the kids. Its a great experience being so close to the animals, handling some of them and feeding them, including the elephants. You will have the chance to see lions and tigers and an amazing selection of animals, for a little extra money you can sit with an orang-utan.
If you walk all the way you can’t cover the entire grounds of the zoo so its probably better to take an electric car which you can drive by yourself so to enjoy and explore the zoo thoroughly. You wont get to see all of the Khao Kheow Open Zoo unless you spend the whole day there so hiring a vehicle or taking your own car around the zoo for the day is advisable.
Unfortunately at the Khao Kheow Open Zoo, like so many of the privately owned attractions in Thailand, there is two-tiered admission fee, foreigners pay more than Thais. Please try not let this bother you though because the entrance fee is very reasonable for such a fun-packed day out.
